The National Hospital of the Medical Center of the UDP of the Republic of Kazakhstan has been providing highly qualified medical care to the population for many decades. However, time changes not only medical technologies, but also the requirements for the safety of medical facilities.
The issue of modernizing the National Hospital did not arise today. The need to update the infrastructure has been repeatedly taken into account as part of the recommendations of international experts JCI, which drew attention to modern requirements for the organization of the treatment process, patient safety and the development of medical infrastructure.
Over the past ten years, a number of surveys have been carried out, the results of which showed the deterioration of structures, the obsolescence of engineering networks and the need to increase the seismic resistance of objects. It was not about isolated remarks, but about conclusions that were confirmed from year to year.
In 2019, experts recommended strengthening individual structures. In 2021, surveys confirmed the need for major repairs. In 2022, one of the buildings was recognized as limited working capacity, after which it was recommended to develop a project to strengthen it. A special monitoring system was installed at the facility to constantly monitor the condition of the structures.
In fact, the issue of updating the hospital became relevant long before the 2024 earthquakes. Even then, options were considered for the phased transfer of individual units to ensure the safe operation of the medical institution.
Earthquakes only confirmed the existing risks. After additional examinations, new structural damage was revealed. This was another confirmation that the accumulated problems cannot be solved by individual local repairs.
The analysis showed that for the further safe operation of a number of facilities, large-scale strengthening of buildings is required. However, the cost of such work in some cases approaches the cost of building new buildings, while not providing a comparable service life and not eliminating all infrastructure restrictions.
That is why it was decided to gradually renew the National Hospital. The project provides for the reconstruction of part of the facilities, the strengthening of individual buildings and the construction of new buildings where this is the most effective solution.
The main goal of modernization is to ensure the safety of patients and medical personnel, create a modern medical infrastructure and preserve the possibility of providing high-quality medical care for many years to come.
The National Hospital continues to operate normally. All medical services are provided in full, and the implementation of the project will be carried out in stages without stopping the activities of the institution.
