A large-scale modernization project has commenced on the grounds of the National Hospital of the Medical Center of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, involving the phased construction of new medical buildings. The project includes the renewal of part of the existing infrastructure and the creation of a modern multidisciplinary medical complex.
Technical assessments have shown that several buildings constructed between the 1950s and 1970s have reached a high level of physical deterioration and no longer meet modern requirements for safety, seismic resistance, and healthcare delivery. The inspections identified defects in structural elements, including cracks and signs of significant wear in engineering systems. In addition, a supplementary technical evaluation revealed damage to certain buildings associated with seismic events that occurred in 2024.
In response, a modernization project has been approved, providing for the phased construction of new medical buildings (replacing existing structures) and a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade. These measures will enhance comfort for patients and medical staff, expand the hospital’s capacity to provide high-tech medical care, and support the continued development of Kazakhstan’s healthcare system in line with modern international standards.
Importantly, all modernization activities will be carried out without a complete shutdown of Sovminka. The transfer of specialized departments to other medical institutions is not planned. The entire workforce will be retained, and all suitable existing medical equipment will continue to be used in the provision of healthcare services.
The construction of the new National Hospital facilities will be implemented in stages, with the first phase scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026. Completion of the first phase is planned for 2028, while the full project is expected to be completed in 2029.
Upon completion, the hospital will become a state-of-the-art medical center featuring upgraded operating rooms, advanced medical equipment, comfortable patient wards, and modern engineering infrastructure. Plans also include the introduction of digital healthcare management systems, intelligent navigation solutions, modern medical logistics technologies, and the creation of a convenient, safe, and functional environment for patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.

We are talking about buildings that serve a large number of patients and healthcare workers every day. Therefore, the modernization of the hospital is a necessary step for the further development of medical care and the implementation of modern treatment standards,” said Askhat Bralov, Director of the National Hospital of the Medical Center of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
