World Hand Hygiene Day is celebrated annually on May 5 – this is a reminder to all of us that a simple habit can significantly reduce the risk of infectious diseases. There is no need to go far: we all realized in covid that sometimes unwashed hands can cost lives, and then we made a habit of washing them constantly.
During the day, we are constantly in contact with the environment: we touch doors, gadgets, products, and it is through our hands that bacteria and viruses are most often transmitted. According to the World Health Organization, regular hand washing reduces the risk of intestinal infections by about 30% and respiratory infections by 20%.
In everyday life, it is important to remember the basic rules: in case of visible pollution, hands must be washed with soap, and in other cases, alcohol-based antiseptics can be used. Hand hygiene is mandatory before eating, after the street, after coughing or sneezing, contact with animals and caring for the sick. But excessive use of aggressive products can lead to the development of contact dermatitis, so it is important to choose soft products and care for the skin.
On May 4-5, an interactive event will be held on the basis of the polyclinic, where medical specialists will show how to properly wash and treat hands in order to reduce the risk of infection and maintain health – they know this by heart!
