About the Department:

   The 1st Surgical Department of the National Hospital performs both traditional and minimally invasive surgical procedures, with particular focus on operations for gastrointestinal diseases, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hernias, and symptoms of gallbladder disorders, as well as abdominal wall reconstruction, primary and revisional bariatric surgery.

   The department uses state-of-the-art imaging methods and surgical instruments to diagnose and treat gastric reflux, internal hernias (such as hiatal hernias), and to correct symptoms related to the esophagus and gastrointestinal tract.

   Surgery Department No. 1 provides modern, comprehensive surgical care for patients with both common surgical conditions and oncological cases. Specialists at the National Hospital emphasize a team-based approach that allows for accurate diagnosis and effective, timely surgical intervention. Each year, the department organizes offsite masterclasses and training sessions to enhance the skills of local surgeons across the country.

• Laparoscopic Approach to Biliary System Surgery: A treatment method less invasive than open surgery, resulting in shorter hospital stays and minimal tissue trauma.
• Bariatric Surgery Program: The National Hospital has been performing bariatric operations since 2013. Our program adopts an interdisciplinary approach, including gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, dietitians, psychologists, and endoscopists. Surgical obesity treatments include sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass (bypass, mini-bypass).
