– I studied as a speech therapist for 4 years. Our specialty along with basic knowledge requires lifelong learning and search. I constantly take continuing education courses, study modern methods of neurorehabilitation, participate in professional seminars and training programs, “says Fatima Samaratbekova, a clinical speech therapist at the National Hospital.
According to some official data, more than 40 thousand people get a stroke every year in the country. Often it is difficult for patients to fully recover from this disease. Only 7% of stroke victims return to their former lives. Fatima Serikovna is a doctor who helps such people restore their ability to speak. According to experts, most patients after a stroke experience various forms of aphasia and other speech disorders. Therefore, speech therapy is needed and in demand.
– I also work with stroke patients and other adults with speech impairment. At the same time, the early start of rehabilitation can lead to the restoration of speech. It depends on the degree of brain damage, the age of the patient and his motivation. In such cases, speech can be restored almost completely. And at other times, we significantly improve a person’s communication skills, restoring his confidence in everyday life. Even partial recovery will significantly improve the patient’s quality of life, says Fatima Serikovna.
In adults, emotional state often slows down the process of recovery after a stroke. It is difficult for a person to speak actively if they are anxious, depressed or insecure. Sometimes intense tension increases stagnation, makes words harder to find and can slow down the speed of speech.
The specialist also worked with children. In matters such as speech delay, stuttering, mispronunciation of letters and words, it is also important to start diagnosis and treatment earlier.
– The reasons for such complex questions can be different. There are such factors as features of intrauterine development, birth injuries, neurological defects. However, the environment also plays an important role. The child is affected by inattention, ignorance, excessive use of gadgets, various situations in the family. Speech impairment is often complex. Therefore, it is necessary to pay special attention to each child and work with his parents, – says F. Serikkyzy.
Stress is known to have a significant impact on speech. Speech is a complex neuropsychiatric process directly related to the work of the central nervous system. Chronic stress increases anxiety levels, disrupts sleep and impairs concentration. All this adds to the difficulties of speech.
– Stress in children can cause speech impairment, especially stuttering. Sudden changes in life – moving, going to school or a scandal in the family – affect the development of speech. Therefore, in speech therapy, we always consider the emotional state of the patient. Family support, a comfortable atmosphere and psychological stability significantly increase the effectiveness of treatment and accelerate positive results, says F. Serikkyzy.
