Stroke is an acute circulatory disorder in the brain. Because of this, part of the cells stops receiving oxygen and begins to die. This is a life-threatening condition!
There are two main types of stroke – ischemic and hemorrhagic. Both are dangerous, but the mechanism of their development is different.
Ischemic stroke is the result of a blockage of a vessel with a blood clot (thrombus) or atherosclerotic plaque. Most often, both of these components play a role in the mechanism of development of ischemic stroke.
Hemorrhagic stroke is caused by a ruptured cerebral artery, which causes blood to flow into the brain tissue or between its membranes, causing cell death. The main cause of hemorrhagic stroke is hypertension or ruptured cerebral aneurysm. This type of stroke can occur in young people and, even, in childhood.
Risk factors for stroke:
❗ Arterial hypertension, cerebral atherosclerosis;
❗ Cardiac arrhythmia (fibrillation, etc.);
❗ Diabetes mellitus, chronic stress;
❗ Bad habits,
❗ Overweight and physical inactivity;
❗ Age> 55 years, male sex, heredity.
Alarming symptoms – signs of a possible stroke:
⭕ sudden weakness in one arm and/or leg;
⭕ sudden numbness of the half of the face, asymmetry of the face;
⭕ sudden speech disturbance;
⭕ confusion or loss of consciousness;
⭕ sudden visual impairment, double vision;
⭕ sudden severe headache.

✅ Quitting smoking and alcohol abuse,
✅ Control of blood sugar and cholesterol,
✅ Active lifestyle, healthy diet, weight control,
✅ For arrhythmias – taking anticoagulants strictly following the doctor’s recommendations;
✅ Regular preventive medical examinations.
Stroke can be prevented! The main thing is to know its signs, take care of your health, and see a doctor on time. The earlier treatment is started, the more chances to save life and health.
