National Hospital staff visited the home of Askar Shantyev, a 90-year-old WWII veteran living in Almaty, to congratulate him on the 80th anniversary of Victory Day and express their warm greetings. The elder warmly welcomed the guests. My ‘motor’ (heart) is like a young man’s, but my knees are giving me trouble, he joked.
Askar grew up in a simple family. His parents went to war and never returned. His aunt raised him. Like other contemporaries, he worked from morning till night during the war years. Because at that time the main slogan of the Kazakh SSR was everything for the front, everything for Victory!
I clearly remember the day when the Soviet army defeated the fascists. It’s the sweetest memory of those difficult years. We all cried, rejoiced, hugged, and sang, said Askar.
He worked as a teacher, school inspector, boarding school director, and driver throughout his life. His family life was also successful. He married and his wife gave birth to eight children: four sons and four daughters. But his wife passed away early, it has been five years now, he sighs, remembering.
The reason for my long life is the support of my family. My family is my strength.
National Hospital staff presented a food basket to the veteran of the labor front, wishing him good health and a long life.
In turn, Askar blessed the guests and wished peace for our country. He also expressed his gratitude to the doctors of the National Hospital clinic, who regularly visit and check the health of veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the labor front, not forgetting them.
