In Almaty, in a house on Tchaikovsky Street, a memorial plaque was installed to the honored doctor of Kazakhstan, a prominent organizer of the health care and social protection system, statesman Myrzeken Kusymzhanov.
He was born in the distant village of Kainar, Semipalatinsk region, in a repressed family. Despite all the hardships, he graduated from high school with honors and entered the medical faculty of the Alma-Ata Medical Institute. As soon as Myrzeken Kusymzhanovich received a diploma, he immediately returned to his native land, where for 20 years he served as a surgeon, chief physician in district and regional medical institutions, he put some hospitals literally from scratch. From the rooms where children, women in labor, patients with tuberculosis were taken at the same time, he created real clinics, including in the nuclear test zone of the Semipalatinsk test site.
In 1968, Myrzeken Kusymzhanovich graduated from the international courses of WHO health organizers, then defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of medical sciences. For more than ten years he worked in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan, was one of the organizers of the historical WHO conference in 1978 in Almaty. During this period, he oversaw the work of the National Hospital, now the National Hospital, took an active part in the construction of the main building.
From 1983 to 1996 he worked as Deputy Minister of Social Protection and Labor of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He led the sector in the apparatus of the Mazhilis of Parliament, actively participated in the development and adoption of the main medical laws of the country. Until the end of his days, he did not stop working, he headed the Texer company for certification of drugs, products and medical devices.
Despite all his merits, he was a very modest person, they hardly wrote about him in the newspapers, he raised his children and grandchildren the same, who also followed in his footsteps. For several decades, his daughter Zhanara Kusymzhanova worked in senior positions at the National Hospital, now she is an adviser to the director.
By the way, last year, on the eve of the republic’s day for the first time in the history of independent Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, together with other outstanding doctors, awarded Myrzeken Kusymzhanov the title of Honored Doctor of Kazakhstan.
