A presentation of the book titled “Standardization of Medical Terminology in the Field of Gynecology” was held at the National Hospital. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Medical Terminology Commission of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan B. Shakenov, Doctor of Philology and Professor G. Orda, Head of the Scientific and Educational Center for Neurology and Applied Neurosciences at the Kazakh National Medical University named after S. D. Asfendiyarov, Doctor of Medical Sciences A. Kondybayeva, Acting Associate Professor of the Department of Language Disciplines T. Zaisanbayev, Associate Professor of Abai KazNPU G. Askarova, as well as hospital physicians.
The authors of the book are: A. Oten, Specialist for the Development of the State Language at the National Hospital and Candidate of Philological Sciences; Sh. Aliyeva, gynecologist and Master of Medicine at the hospital; and M. Yergazina, Head of the Department of Histology at Asfendiyarov KazNMU, Associate Professor, and member of the Republican Terminology Commission.
During the meeting, Director of the National Hospital A.Z. Bralov congratulated the authors on publishing the collection and noted that the book is a significant contribution to the medical field. He also emphasized that many beneficial initiatives are being implemented thanks to the cooperation between KazNMU and the National Hospital.
The methodological guide presents Kazakh and Russian versions of commonly used medical words and terms. The book is intended for students, master’s degree students, and employees of all medical institutions. The work was published to ensure uniform use of terminology in fundamental medical disciplines, clinical subjects, and healthcare institutions.
“Although we teach students how to use terminology, they use the terms exactly as they appear in textbooks. Therefore, we want them to apply unified terminology starting from fundamental disciplines and continuing into clinical subjects and professional medical practice. That is why we initiated this work for the first time. We began our first experience with gynecology and plan to expand into other fields as well,” said Maral Yergazina, Head of the Histology Department at Asfendiyarov KazNMU and Associate Professor.
Previously, the 14th volume of the 30-volume dictionary published in Kazakhstan was dedicated to medicine; however, it was not divided into specific medical fields. This collection is the first specialized dictionary developed by field. In order to implement the Concept for the Development of Language Policy in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2023–2029, the National Hospital of the Medical Center of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh National Medical University named after S. D. Asfendiyarov aim to teach students, master’s degree students, and staff the fundamentals of the Kazakh language while ensuring the standardized use of gynecology and histology terminology within the framework of state language development and application.
The main goal is to expand the use of the Kazakh language by providing practical support for official documentation in the state language.
