Osteoporosis is a chronic disease in which bone density decreases and the risk of fractures increases. According to experts, the main danger of the disease is that in the early stages it is asymptomatic and is often detected after serious injuries.
The most common complications remain hip fractures in elderly patients, as well as spinal compression fractures, which can significantly reduce quality of life. According to the World Health Organization, people over 50 are at risk, primarily women after menopause. At the same time, doctors note an increase in the number of cases of the disease among men and young people – with a deficiency of vitamin D and calcium, hormonal disorders and a sedentary lifestyle.
Experts point to a tendency to “rejuvenate” osteoporosis. Modern lifestyle, sedentary work, active use of gadgets, unbalanced nutrition and the use of energy drinks that contribute to the washing out of calcium increase the risk of developing the disease, including in adolescents.
For early detection of osteoporosis, densitometry is used, which allows you to determine bone density and diagnose the disease at the initial stages. Doctors emphasize that prevention includes a balanced diet, regular physical activity, walking in the fresh air, giving up bad habits and controlling vitamin D levels.
In cases of severe disease, when osteoporosis leads to destruction of the joints, surgical treatment may be required. In the National Hospital, arthroscopic operations are performed for injuries of the knee and shoulder joints, as well as osteosynthesis of fractures of the tubular bones. About 200 such operations are performed annually in a medical institution.
The National Hospital accepts patients from all over Kazakhstan both within the framework of the guaranteed volume of medical care and on a paid basis. You can make an appointment online or through a call center in Almaty at 338-43-10.
Doctors emphasize that timely seeking medical help can increase the effectiveness of treatment and significantly reduce the recovery time.
